BASIC SPONGE CAKE

There is no better aroma for a kitchen – nor the rest of the house – than a good sponge cake cooking, anticipating that delicious moment of enjoying our homemade recipe together with a good cup of coffee, tea or chocolate. This pound cake has just the right amount of sweetness, is tender and spongy and can be flavoured to taste with vanilla, grated citrus peel or cinnamon. It can be eaten as it is, covered with chocolate or icing; for example with the juice of the same citrus fruit we have used to flavour it, mixed with icing sugar until a light textured white mixture is achieved.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups – measuring cup included – of loose flour (plain flour, no yeast added)
  • 1 cup of white sugar
  • ½ cup melted butter
  • cup of milk
  • 3 large eggs
  • 3 teaspoons – the small side of the measuring spoon included – of Royal type yeast
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract or the seeds of half a pod (scraped with a knife (optional, you can also use cinnamon, grated lemon, lime or orange…))

Instructions

  • Place the stirring rod in the bread container. Add all the ingredients, starting with the liquids, and activate program 10.
  • When the cake is ready, carefully unmold it without burning yourself. If the stirring rod has remained inside, remove it with the help of the hook. Leave to cool on a rack and consume once warm (if desired, accompanied by vanilla ice cream, freshly chopped fruit, chocolate sauce …).
