There are different types of fans made to suit different needs, preferences and budgets. Ceiling fans are a popular choice. Unlike desk or floor fans, they cool or warm an entire room evenly unlike mobile fans.

Choosing a ceiling fans with light

They are different types of ceiling fans with different features. One option is ceiling fans with lights. Keeping the following factors in mind will help you sift through all the options so you arrive at the best choice for your home.

The right size of ceiling fans with lights

Size is the most important factor to consider before you buy a ceiling fan If you choose a ceiling fan that is too small for a room, it will not circulate air throughout the room. The opposite is true. A fan that is too big for a room will make a room too cold or too warm. If a room has a high ceiling, consider installing more than one ceiling fan on either end of the room.

Having determined whether you need a small or large fan or maybe two fans, you need to get the dimensions right. Measurements are indicated by blade span. This is the diameter of the circle of the blade which is referred to as their sweep. If you plan to buy a fan with an even number of blades, determine its span by measuring the diameter of the fan. If the fan will have an odd number of blades, take the measurement from the middle of the fan to the end and multiply this number by two.

Having got the measurements right, you can then think of the look you want when you go to winter ventilation. Options include industrial size multi-blade fans that are oversize. These are popular for their style and efficient air circulation. If you want buy an oversize or larger than average fan or one with many blades, your ceiling fan should be at least eight or nine feet off the ground and 12 to 18 inches away from the nearest wall. The ceiling fan can be higher but for safety reasons, the blades should not be less than seven feet from the ground.

As a general guide:

  • Low ceilings that are less than eight feet high should have a hugger or flush-mounted ceiling that is mounted next to the ceiling to meet the safety requirement of the minimum seven foot distance from the floor.
  • Standard height ceilings which are eight to nine feet high work best with a ceiling fan that is installed with a down rod that is three to five inches long to connect the mount that comes with a ceiling fan.
  • High ceilings can have ceiling fans are installed with longer down rods. Some brands provide them with the fan but with others, the rod has to be purchased separately.
  • Vaulted ceilings can have ceiling fans that are hang at angle of 21 degrees. Attachment kits for steeper ceilings are available.

In our retractable ceiling fans section, you can discover all the ceiling fans that have this incredible function. They are really useful in small rooms, or when we don't want the blades to be visible.

The right motor for ceiling fans with lights

Ceiling fans must have a strong motor if it is to work efficiently and last long. A good motor will also ensure that the fan you ventilators will not wobble. One with a DC motor is recommended. This is for their energy efficiency, more speed options and a reverse function compared to standard AC motors. The reverse function makes it possible to use a ceiling fan all year round by switching the direction of the blades so they blow hot or cool air. These DC motor features give even small fans a lot of power.

Ceiling fans with lights UK

Having got the most important factors like size right, you can think of accessory options. Lights are one such accessory. If you so wish, you can choose a ceiling fan without light. You can buy such a fan and then buy a light kit attachment separately. You can also purchase the kit to upgrade a ceiling fan you already have that doesn't have lights. LED light kits if a room does not have overhead lights. These type of lights are dimmable and the most energy-efficient.

For controls, the most convenient option is remote control ceiling fan with light. These are the option to ceiling cord pulls. The most modern remote control ceiling fan with light don't need additional wiring. These work with radio frequency so they work like a remote that is fixed on wall. Others use Bluetooth technology so they can be controlled remotely via an app on a smartphone.
